Diaz gave the Philippines its first-ever gold medal at the Olympics after 97 years of waiting. As a way of expressing our gratitude for the pride and joy she has brought to the nation, we are opening our home to her and her team, to learn new languages and cultures at her convenience as she continues to represent the Philippines in future international sporting events.
With her recent victory, Diaz becomes the most decorated Filipino Olympian, with two medals, after previously winning the silver medal in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. Appearing in her fourth consecutive Olympics, Diaz set an Olympic weightlifting record in the women’s 55-kilogram event by lifting a total of 224 kilograms.
